Tom Breitling, the chairman of Ultimate Poker, has not told the media how many people have actually been playing during the first week. However, it is clear that Ultimate Poker has become an extremely popular online gaming hub since its launch. Over 100,000 new users had registered accounts by Friday evening. Parrish has received support from Tina Kotek, the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Kotek said that the existing legislation is too lenient and caused gambling to become too widespread.

The founders of many poker rooms feel that the new legislation is unfair and unnecessary. John Orgai, the owner of a local poker club, said that he isn’t running a large casino. He said that he manages a small business that the entire community benefits from. Orgai said that unlike a Las Vegas casino he charges an entry fee at the door instead of charging a rake.

Most members of the community have protested the proposal and hope that Kotek and Parrish will change their position. However, Parrish is adamant that the laws need to be reformed. She said that many poker rooms aren’t following the laws as they are already written and states that they will need to be held accountable.

PokerStars officially filed an online gaming application on Thursday. Their application is being reviewed by the state’s gaming regulators, who will make a decision within the next 90 days.

Experts aren’t sure what PokerStars’s odds are of receiving an online gaming license. Some government officials have called for bad actor clauses to prevent PokerStars and other operators that violated the UIGEA from receiving licenses. Hollreiser said that Caesar’s is pressuring the AGA to file complaints against PokerStars after the online poker giant refused to participate in a merger with the Nevada based casino.

Another official also stated that PokerStars never admitted to any wrongdoing when they settled their charges with the Department of Justice. Therefore, the company’s attorneys believe that PokerStars shouldn’t be excluded from offering online gaming in any of the states that have passed online gaming bills.

The Atlantic Club is owned by Colony Capital LLC. Colony Capital was optimistic about the new deal with PokerStars, but insisted that the online gaming provider secure an online gaming license by last Friday before they would finalize the deal. PokerStars did not secure an online gaming license which has caused the deal to collapse.

New Jersey gaming regulators recently told PokerStars that they may not make a decision for another three months. Colony Capital may still uphold the agreement, but may be less likely to do so if PokerStars takes too long to secure a license.

These new developments will further complicate PokerStars’s attempts to reenter the United States online gaming market.
