Professional poker player Jason Mercier took home one of the biggest jackpots so far from the World Series of Poker.
Mercier, a professional poker player from Florida, took home more than $600,000 in the $5,000 Pot-Limit Six-Handed event at the WSOP, bringing his lifetime tournament total wins to more than $6 million and more than $1 million in WSOP events.
Mercier beat a field of 507 players for both the cash pot and a coveted WSOP gold bracelet.
The second-place finisher finished higher than any player from Nicaragua ever has finished. Hans Winzeler took home $383,000 for that second-place finish.
The tournament paid cash prizes to the top 48 finishers. They included some well-known former WSOP gold bracelet winners like David Chiu, Vanessa Selbst, and Jeff Lisandro.
The WSOP began in May at the Rio Casino in Las Vegas. It will end in July when the final table of Main Event players is announced.
