Sega Leaves Online Gaming

Sega Gaming unexpectedly shut down two of its online casino & poker site last week. The sites, SegaPoker.com and SegaCasino.com, were launched nearly a year ago with software powered by Playtech.

Neither Sega nor Playtech offered any reason for the shut down. Customers who went to the Sega Gaming sites were simply greeted with the message “we are no longer accepting registration deposits from your jurisdiction”.

Sega Corporation had a full gaming license from the Gaming Control Commission of Alderney in the British Channel Islands. According to Sega, customers can still withdraw funds but they can no longer deposit money and the site will no longer accept registrations.

The Sega Casino offered more than 125 games, including many of the regular Playtech games including slots and blackjack, along with Sega-themed games like Phantasy Star and Knights, and Virtua Fighter in the House of the Dead.

Some are speculating that Sega will return to the online gaming market since the sites were relatively successful and capitalized on the Sega name and style of play. For now, the company has said that players can withdraw both money they have deposited at the site and their eligible winnings, but has offered no explanation for the shut down and no indication of plans for the future.
